“How do I burn fat in a specific area?”, is a question we get often in the fitness industry. If you’re on a fat loss journey, in the beginning it’s always easier and faster to see changes in your body. That is the fun part, to physically see changes in your body fast.

Unfortunately, after some time many find that it is difficult to get rid of fats in certain regions of their bodies. We call this “stubborn fats” because they just refuse to go away! Guys often find this stubborn fat around their stomach area, in the lower abs, the obliques and even their lower backs. For females on the other hand, stubborn fats are often found in their thighs, hips and flabby arms.

If you relate to this situation, keep on reading as we discuss on what not to do when trying to lose stubborn fats and solutions to help you get rid of it.

  • Spot reduction does NOT work

Spot reduction is trying to lose fat in one spot by exercising only that part of your body. For instance, doing sit ups thinking that you are going to burn fat in the stomach area or doing triceps exercises trying to get rid of those loose flabby arms. Unfortunately, our body doesn’t work like that.

When you lift weights, you are actually targeting and working the muscles. That means you are going to feel the burning sensation in the muscles after you lift weights. Hence, you are growing and strengthening the muscles NOT burning those stubborn fats. When it comes to burning fat, there is no one spot you can choose where to burn fat from your as body simply burns fat overall. That is why when it comes to training you should be focusing more on COMPOUND MOVEMENTS and FULL BODY WORKOUTS. This will result in your body burning more calories at rest, and you will look much better with some lean muscles.

Stubborn fats vs regular fats
  • “Fat burning” products are BOGUS

Waist trimmer, hot pants, fat-burning creams and many other products in the market claiming to help you burn fats are not going to help you get rid of those stubborn fats. Burning fat is done by your metabolism which is an internal process. There are certain chemical formulas that converts fat into energy, and all of this happens inside of your body. There are no external products, tools or machines that is going to miraculously burn fat off your body. It just doesn’t make sense! There you go, we just saved you some money. Please don’t fall for all these fall advertisements. You are educated and smart enough to know that there is no shortcut in fitness.

Instead, try out a CALORIE DEFICIT diet. You can do this by eating lesser calories than what your body burns. Its understandable many of us may find counting calories a bit too overwhelming and complicated. That is fine! All you got to do is start making small changes to your current diet, such as eating more vegetables, drinking more water, and focus on consuming proteins.

There is no short cut to losing weight! Put in the work, and you will see the results.
